I give them information. No one "needs" money. I'll even give them tips on the best ways for a casual player to make money.
There's a difference between needing money and needing information. The one needing money is just lazy and greedy.

Maybe I'm just unlucky. If I see someone politely asking for help or a question I'd be more than happy to answer.
Because...when I started out someone actually bothered to help me out. They gave my crappy mending wammo a good axe to use and gave me some good tips on gameplay. That really helped me out and made me want to continue!
I never feed the storage beggars. The spam annoys the hell outta me and giving them money to shut up only makes sure that they do it again next time.

I will quite often do some of the missions but that is more to improve my drops than to help newbies. Otherwise, I pretty much agree with you.

I've given quite a few runs to people to droks and a few other places (all free) and I'll also answer questions that people pm me or give them that 20 gold or whatever to open storage (not like its that much money heh).

I try to help any new players out.. giving items or just helping them in general.. but as far as giving items away.. it's really hard to tell a real new player vs a old veteran player just looking for free items playing as a new player.. >.>

Answer Q's, very limited free runs (i.e. from Ascalon to LA for Halloween), occasionally give away items to new players (i.e. purples in pre-searing, imperfects and/or mods to people in PUG's that seem decent but ill-equipped), partner with people who need to get their rez sigs in pre-, open the gate to the northlands for free sometimes, etc.
I don't give out free money or materials, I don't give out free items to beggars (I offer free items to people I pick, not people who ask for them).

Help them in missions? Sure! As long as they appreciate it. As said before, if I trust them
Teach them about game mechanics? Definitly
Give them tips on what to do next? Yep
Help them find the information they are looking for? Yep, usually ranges from quest info to build help
Tour them through the UI and basic controls? Most new players understand these right off the bat, but I help them with stuff like that aswell. Usually it's something small like how to talk in different chats.
Tell them the philosophy behind a skill, a build or a profession? Only if I >>REALLY<< understand the skill/build/profession they are intrested in.

If someone asks me something, I usually try to reply (and relatively politely, even!), I even answer to all those "how u get the shiny hands" (CE) questions. For example, directing people to places where they'll get max armor, or collectors if they're obviously poor.
Every time I've got the Time Is Nigh quest I will ferry at least one player to the Docks for free, and sometimes even ask them to do the same when it's their turn to finish that quest. Spread the love, etc.
I will generally try to be polite to everyone, but obvious beggars and idiots I'll ignore automatically. It's no use feeding their bad habits >:D.

If I see that someone is lost, I generally help out by giving the right info or direction, or if I'm heading in the same direction, a run to wherever.
Used to hand out weapons as well, but I rarely hang around outposts and cities these days as there's just too much to do in-game.

usually i don't help them with anything.
GW is a very easy game to play, there's no exp loss for dying, no armor maintenance cost, or anything like that. basically you can't go backwards, only forwards (at varying speed)
anyone who needs 50g for storage has other characters, so he's not new. and therefor doesn't need anything, he's just lazy
same thing with armor really. In prophecies you go through pre-sear before you need to buy armor, so you should have enough gold when you get to it.
in factions and nightfall you will get a lot of gold form quests to use on it.
the only ones i will help are the ones asking questions about certain game-mechanics or UI features. or how to progress in the main campaign if they are stuck
I don't give any help to lazy people.

I answer questions when people ask. I find it irritating that so many pop off with rude and false answers. It is easy to answer a question, if you don't want to then it is even easier to not say anything. If I have information then I am happy to share.
I sometimes help with missions, always with rez sig and will sometimes show people where to find things (especially in pre).
I used to give away weapons that were not worth selling but too good to throw away that a newbie could use but I found that most times it is more hassle than it is worth. Still sometimes I am optimistic and give it a try. I am glad if I can help someone that really needs it. The ones that beg or keep asking for more get ignored.
I never give away money to strangers...ever. It is too easy to go play the game and get money for your items and gold to pick up. I hate beggars both in real life and in game.

Every now and then I'll take half decent gold weps and hand them out to low lvl players in Ascalon. I've also given away some of the cheap mini pets that I've dedicated in my HoM.

tell them good luck.
I started on my own and didnt have much help from the 2 guys that told me to buy the game so I believe that everyone should give a kick in their own asses to play. Tell them to shut the hell up if they sit in town asking for free gold and mats.

I don't interact much with others in town, but when I help it's usually in the form of taking them through missions, giving them runs to key towns, giving basic pointers about game mechanics, etc. I don't do gold giveaways, but if I have some old weapons in my inventory that I don't want then I'll be happy to help start them out on their gear.

Depends on the willingness of the player to listen and accept the fact that they might be wrong on some things.
Spammers of any kind may as well not exist imo, they go completely under my radar.

when I get a bunch of the useless collector items, I trade them in for a bunch of max collector weapons and go to Ascalon or somewhere and give them to low levels. Same goes for max white/blue/purple Chaos Axes or FDS's I get in FoW that are merchant fodder for me. If I'm running an Alliance member, I'll fill up the party with people who need the run, take them along for the ride. I've been bored and lent my max Heros when in low ends of the game.
